Gospel: Luke 21: 34 – 36
Jesus said to his disciples:“Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap.
For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth.Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Reflection:
In the gospel we are told the best preparation for that unpredictable moment of leaving this world is to live as fully as we can in the presence of our always-present God. Let us try to seek him, find him and respond to him in every single person and in every single experience of our daily lives.
“O Lord, grant that all my thoughts, intentions, actions and responses may be directed solely to your love and service this day and every day.” Amen.
