ST. SCHO | February 24, 2026 — St. Scholastica’s Academy marked the commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution with a program titled “EDSA@40” attended by senior high school students, Don Bosco Academy students, faculty, staff, batch 2002 alumni, and Parent-Teacher Association officers.
The event opened with an interpretative dance by Sinukwan dancers, followed by a meaningful invocation from Mr. Joel Santos, the Campus Ministry Officer.
Sister Mary John Mananzan, OSB, the School Directress, then delivered the first call, detailing her eyewitness accounts of the 1986 People Power Revolution—life before, during, and after martial law, the creation of the women’s crisis center, the bloodless protest, and the administration of President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
Following this were powerful song intermissions by Alfyann Doreen Sarmiento and Clara Jalandion, and later, the High School Glee Club with their club moderator, Mr. John Dricx Simon, powerfully delivering their rendition of “Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo.”
The second call was delivered by SC President Kristen Cano, focusing on the students’ perspective and the importance of youth power, emphasizing the statement “Our voices and choices matter.”
Former faculty member Mr. Arnel Usman, DepEd Chief Supervisor-Bulacan, delivered the third call with his talk titled “EDSA: The Revolution that ran on Courage not Wi-Fi,” connecting the spirit of the 1986 EDSA People Power to today’s digital age and relating it to current platforms and advancements.
Last but not least, Mr. Alex Lising concluded the talks with a call to action, urging the audience to reflect on the question “Nasaan na ang diwa ng EDSA?”, reminding everyone that the power of the people is greater than the people in power.
This year’s EDSA@40 was not simply a reminder of history, but a call to carry the legacy of our grandparents, the nuns, and those who stood in solidarity during the People Power Revolution—proving that true authority lies in the collective strength of the people.
