Gospel: Luke 19: 41 – 44
As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace– but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
Reflection:
The Lack of Faith in Jesus
Jesus wept because of deep sorrow for Jerusalem. As he enters Jerusalem, many people would reject him and sought his death. He also saw the lack of faith of the people that fail them to see that Jesus is the Son of God.
It is painful to see Jesus weeping for us because of our sins and our lack of faith in him. We fail to see him in our daily lives for we are full of our selves. We fail to see him in our neighbors. Instead of relying in Christ we tend to rely on other things and often times it leads us to temptation and sin because of our lack of faith.
This passage challenges us to have faith in Jesus by seeing him in our neighbors and in our day to day experience. And to ask him to help us to increase our faith in him so that we may not easily fall into the trap of the evil ones.
